Earmarks for Harry Reid
a Respectable Animal, Really

One intent of this section is to give those who don't follow politics closely an idea of what an earmark is. This section also includes a link to a list of earmarks so you can see whom Harry Reid is favoring. Perhaps your company, college or city can hire a lobbyist to apply to the Senator for your very own earmark.

An entry from a table of earmarks by Harry Reid is shown below. The Senator forced 17,712,000 dollars from the Energy and Water budget to be spent on an "Nevada Test Site, Operations and Infrastructure Improvements". The folks responsible for spending the money in the Energy and Water budget may very well have wanted these improvements made to this particular test site anyway. Of course it is possible they might have preferred to spend the money on something they considered more important in another state. Makes no difference as Harry Reid made this decision for them. This is how earmarks work.

The above entry was from the web site of a watchdog group called "Legistorm". For the complete table of earmarks by Harry Reid, click on the link below. ....Note.... The link below shows only ten earmarks per page. There there are more than fifty pages.

It has been said that 90 percent of the time your first impressions are correct. Most people's first impression when they learn what an earmark is, is that it is a corrupt process. If this is true, was Senator Reid wrong to make the earmarks listed above in the current climate that exists in Washington? There is at least one extremely strong argument that he was not wrong to do so. . . .

Grassroots video
Video

How do people form their opinions of others? It is hard to beat seeing someone in person. Body language, voice variations, and eye contact make most people trust the opinions they form by seeing someone in person. Video is the next best thing.

The following video is from a search on Youtube. A video does give a better idea about a person than a picture does. Surprisingly there are few videos of the Senator answering a question without a long lead-in by a media personality. One of the main concepts of this web site is to get grassroots groups to ask questions of candidates. An example of this concept follows the video below.

Click on the "button" below to go to a list of questions and answers for a candidate in South Carolina. Have the grassroots been missing a huge opportunity? If the people started asking questions more would be known about incumbents and candidates than in any previous election. The technology is here. Is it time for the people to start asking the questions? Is it time for our representatives and candidates to answer us?

Illegal Immigration

An "A" grade is a leader that believes Americans should all speak one common language again. Incumbents with "D" and "F" grades will likely pass some type of amnesty bill.

Money raised:

Cash on hand - $9,134,676
Disbursements - $6,622,659

Total raised for cycle ending 5/19/2010 - $12,440,982

From individuals - $8,926,048

From Political Action Comitees - $2,717,941

From the Democratic Party - $0

From the candidate - $0

From other sources - $796,993

Note: Amounts listed above are from the FEC (Federal Election Commission) web site. The most important numbers are "Cash on hand" and "Disbursements". Yes those numbers are real. Harry Reid has well over 9 million dollars on hand. The media outlets in Nevada are going to have a good year as far as advertising revenue goes. It is likely Senator Reid is going to have to spend a big chunk of it as polls show the people are not very happy with incumbents right now. He has already spent over six million dollars.

The FEC reports show the Senator has received 2,717,941 dollars from Political Action Committees (PACs). These are the organizations that have a reputation of wanting something in return for their investment. It should be noted that these higher than normal PAC contributions are complemented by higher than normal earmarks. It should also be noted that Harry Reid received 8,926,048 dollars in campaign contributions from individuals. This is normally a good sign and reduces the size of the PAC contributions if you look at them from the point of view of percentage of the total money raised.
